Candida Auris

Candida Auris

Candida auris is a species of fungus which grows as yeast, first described in 2009. It is one of the few species of the Candida genus which cause candidiasis in humans. Candidiasis typically affects patients with weakened immune systems and is often acquired in hospitals as a result. C. auris can cause invasive candidiasis in which the bloodstream , the central nervous system, and internal organs are infected. It has recently attracted increased attention because of its multi-drug resistance.

Transmission:

As an emerging pathogen, the epidemiology of transmission for Candida auris is still under investigation. Early evidence suggests that the organism is spread in healthcare settings through contact with contaminated environmental surfaces or equipment, or from person to person. However, more research is required to understand how Candida auris spreads.

Symptoms:

Symptoms of A. baumannii infections are often indistinguishable from other opportunistic infections caused by other candida infections and can be very difficult to diagnose.

  • Ear Infections
  • Bloodstream Infections
  • Fever
  • Chills
  • Urinary Tract Infections
  • Can lead to serious internal infections, which may lead to death
