What Disinfectant should you use in your disinfectant sprayer?
What disinfectant should you use with a disinfectant sprayer? Well, that depends on a lot of factors including the pathogens you’re looking to get rid of. Most requests we get these days are about electrostatic sprayers and COVID-19, or the cost of COVID-19 disinfectants when applied through an electrostatic sprayer, so we’ll start there.
To find disinfectants that kill SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19, you’ll first need to check to make sure the disinfectants you’re considering are on the EPA’s List N. It’s important to note that all products should be looked up by their EPA registration number, as subregistered products will only appear under the initial registration.
Safety and Corrosivity
Once you know that your disinfectant for your electrostatic sprayer can actually be used against the SARS-CoV-2 Virus, it’s time to look at corrosivity and safety. For safety information, you can read section 2 of the SDS sheet, and for material compatibility you’ll want to review the label. You’ll also want to review the instructions to get a better understanding of how the product is used, and whether it needs to be wiped clean after using.
Reviewing the instructions on the label will help you understand how much product is required for disinfection at the PPM required to kill the SARS-CoV-2 Virus, and what quantities you’ll need for daily disinfection. Don’t forget to add shipping costs to your final tally.
So how to decide?
So now that you know how to evaluate your disinfectants, what are the primary things to look for in an electrostatic sprayer disinfectant?
- ⦿ You want a disinfectant that you can store a lot of.
- ⦿ You want the cost to be low enough that you can use it as often as you need to.
- ⦿ You want one that doesn’t need to be wiped away (as that negates the efficiency of using the sprayer in the first place)
- ⦿ And you want one that is compatible with the materials in your facility and safe for your staff.
